Description<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The scientific conference&nbsp;<strong>DisAbility Culture: Art, Inclusion and Social Transformation<\/strong>&nbsp;constitutes the opening event of the European Festival&nbsp;<strong>DIS \u2013 Together We Are Better<\/strong>, which is organised within the framework of the&nbsp;<strong>Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The conference focuses on the relationship between disability, culture, art, inclusion, and social transformation, approaching disability not as an individual condition, but as a&nbsp;<strong>cultural, social, and political experience<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The aim of the conference is to strengthen scholarly dialogue around:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>the role of art and culture in shaping inclusive societies,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the production of knowledge on disability through critical and interdisciplinary approaches,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the connection between cultural practices, democratic rights, and social justice.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The conference is primarily addressed to&nbsp;<strong>academics and researchers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Thematic Axes<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Submitted proposals should fall under one or more of the following thematic axes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Thematic Axis 1<\/strong><br><strong>Art, Disability, and Cultural Representation<\/strong><br>This axis examines issues of disability representation in art, culture, and public discourse, as well as the ways artistic creation redefines stereotypes and normative frameworks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Thematic Axis 2<\/strong><br><strong>Inclusion, Aesthetics, and Cultural Policy<\/strong><br>This axis focuses on power relations that shape aesthetic value, cultural normativity, and policies of inclusion or exclusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Thematic Axis 3<\/strong><br><strong>Accessibility in Culture: Theory, Practices, and Institutions<\/strong><br>Theoretical and applied models of cultural accessibility are analysed, including institutional frameworks and practices that enhance participation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Thematic Axis 4<\/strong><br><strong>Knowledge, Research, and Disability: Methodologies and Scientific Paradigms<\/strong><br>This axis explores how knowledge about disability is produced, who speaks, and through which research methodologies, with emphasis on critical and participatory approaches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Thematic Axis 5<\/strong><br><strong>Culture, Democracy, and Rights: Disability in the Public Sphere<\/strong><br>Disability is examined as an issue of democratic participation, cultural rights, and social activism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Who Can Submit<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The conference is primarily addressed to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>academics and researchers from the humanities and social sciences,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>researchers in cultural studies, disability studies, and art studies,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>cultural professionals with documented research work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Participation by&nbsp;<strong>disabled researchers<\/strong>&nbsp;is particularly encouraged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Types of Contributions<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Only the following forms of scientific participation are accepted:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Scientific presentations<\/strong>&nbsp;featuring original, completed research<br>(15 minutes presentation + 5 minutes Q&amp;A).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Scientific posters<\/strong>&nbsp;presenting research or theoretical approaches<br>(Printing of posters is the responsibility of the authors\/creators).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Other forms of participation (e.g. panels, workshops, round tables) <strong>are not provided<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Selected presentations and posters will be published digitally on the&nbsp;<strong>official festival website<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Conference Language<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The official language of the conference is&nbsp;<strong>English<\/strong>.<br>Therefore, all submissions (presentations and posters) must be in&nbsp;<strong>English<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Submission Guidelines<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Each proposal must include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>title,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>abstract of up to&nbsp;<strong>300 words<\/strong>,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>3\u20135 keywords<\/strong>,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>full name of the author\/creator,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>institutional affiliation and organisation,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>short biography of up to&nbsp;<strong>70 words<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Submissions will be made through the official festival website at the following class=\"wp-block-heading\">Evaluation Criteria<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Proposals will be evaluated based on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>scientific quality and originality,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>clarity of theoretical and methodological framework,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>relevance to the thematic axes,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>contribution to scholarly dialogue on disability and culture.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Particular emphasis will be placed on proposals that&nbsp;<strong>incorporate the lived experiences of disabled individuals<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div disability as a cultural, social, and political experience, highlighting the role of art, culture, and inclusion in social transformation and democratic participation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Larnaca, a city with a long history, a multicultural identity, and a vibrant contemporary cultural life, offers the ideal setting to host a meaningful dialogue on rights, accessibility, and social justice.
